Common questions

The UV index shows 0 — is something broken?

No. The UV index is 0 at night and in low-sun conditions. Check the hourly chart and "Today's Peak" to see when UV will climb — at night the app shows tomorrow's curve so you can plan ahead.

How do I set my skin type?

Open Settings (gear icon) → Skin Type and pick your Fitzpatrick type (I–VI). This personalizes the "time to burn" estimate and the Sun Session reapply timing. It's general guidance, not medical advice.

What is a Sun Session?

Tap Start on the Sun Session card before you head outside. A sunscreen-reapply countdown runs on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, with the reapply window set from your skin-type burn time. Tap "I Reapplied" to reset it.

The location shows "Current Location" instead of a place name.

The place name resolves a moment after your location is found and can be delayed by network conditions. Pull down to refresh, or make sure Location Services is enabled for UV Report in iOS Settings. You can also add a location by name.

How do I remove ads?

Open Settings → Support UV Report and leave a tip. A small tip removes ads for about a month, the largest for over a year, and tips stack. Ads are also automatically hidden at Extreme UV and in several accessibility and offline situations.

Widgets or the Watch app aren't updating.

iOS controls how often widgets and background refresh run, so updates aren't instant. Make sure Background App Refresh is enabled (iOS Settings → General → Background App Refresh), and open the app once to refresh immediately.

Does the Apple Watch app work on its own?

The Watch app and complications show the UV index for your location. Some features rely on the iPhone app being installed and recently opened.
